Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show 2023

Yes it’s that time again. Any excuse to attend an event like this makes me happy.

Up early and on the road for an overnight stop in Shepparton tonight. Cold and frosty in Goulburn then very foggy for the next leg of my journey, which didn’t clear until 11am. I arrived in Wangaratta with the intention of visiting the mill shop but the hours have changed! Now Fridays and Mondays. Knowing this now I will go on Monday on my way home.

Tomorrow will be the start of 3 days at the Bendigo Show ground enjoying all things sheep and wool. Another must/essential is a trip to the Bendigo Woollen Mill and the mill shop.

In memory of….The well known lady who had this stall passed away recently and the daughters decided to continue for this show by selling all of mums stash she had accumulated over the years. All quality wools of various types. She purchased much of the wool from the show. She was an adventurous and avid knitter. One of her garments was featured in the fashion parade.
I found a match to complete my cardigan. Not perfect but much time and many dye lots have been and gone since my original purchase.

Australian wool has come along way.Fine merino is sort after for overseas fashion mills and designers. All these items where from the vendors exhibiting at the show. The local models were very professional and elegant. A fun display.
Judging is a serious business.
The sheep dog trials attracted a lot of interest.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Sheep and Wool Show. It is my happy place. I enjoyed the trip although this time there was a lot of fog that didn’t completely lift until late morning. There has been a lot of recent rainfall with high river levels and water in low lying areas. I was pleased to have powered sites where I stayed as it was chilly 2 degree nights.

Good to be home and catch up with family. The dog still remembered me. It didn’t take long for her resume the creature comforts she missed.

Retired in April 2017 after a long career in cardiac nursing which I loved, I find my life has totally changed. After almost loosing my husband last August to a dissecting aortic aneurysm complicated by a massive watershed stroke post cardiothoracic surgery, we are adapting to a very different life together. This is our now story. Update, November 2025. Chris continued to do well until he had a stroke in August 2018. This time after 2 weeks on life support with no sign of improvement he passed away peacefully with the family present. RIP Chris, much loved and missed.
